Choosing Your Pilates Reformer

What is reformer Pilates?

A reformer is a sliding carriage on a frame, with springs, a footbar and straps that add or reduce resistance. You push, pull and stretch through controlled, flowing movements in several directions, adjusting the springs as you progress. It's low-impact and works for beginners through to advanced practitioners.

Foldable, studio or tower?

  • Foldable reformers fold up and roll away, ideal for apartments and shared spaces.
  • Studio reformers have a fixed full-length frame for the stable, smooth feel of a studio machine.
  • Tower reformers and Cadillacs add an upright frame with extra springs and bars for more exercise variety.

Timber or aluminium?

Timber frames (oak, walnut, maple, beechwood) bring a warm, furniture-quality look to a home or boutique studio. Aluminium frames are lighter and suit busy, high-use spaces.
