Hydrogen Inhalation Machine for Home: How to Choose the Best One in Australia (2026 Guide)
A hydrogen inhalation machine is one of the bigger wellness purchases you can make for your home. Prices in Australia run from about $2,000 to over $6,000, and the spec sheets are full of numbers that are hard to compare.
This guide explains how a hydrogen inhalation machine works, what the flow rate really means, what it costs to buy and run, and how to choose the right one for your home.
What is a hydrogen inhalation machine?
A hydrogen inhalation machine makes hydrogen gas from water so you can breathe it in at home, usually through a soft nasal cannula. You'll also see it called a hydrogen oxygen machine, hydrogen oxygen generator or hydrogen generator for home.
Inside is an electrolysis cell. A small electrical current splits purified water into hydrogen and oxygen, the same principle the U.S. Department of Energy describes for producing hydrogen.
Quality machines use a PEM or SPE membrane (DuPont N117 is a common one) with platinum electrodes to keep the gases clean and separate.
Hydrogen-oxygen mix or pure hydrogen?
Water is made of two parts hydrogen to one part oxygen. So when a hydrogen oxygen machine splits water, it naturally produces a 2:1 mix of hydrogen and oxygen, also known as oxyhydrogen.
Some machines deliver that 2:1 mix through one outlet. Others separate the two gases and give you a hydrogen outlet and an oxygen outlet.
- OxiVaultt machines deliver a 2:1 hydrogen-oxygen mix at 99.99% purity.
- OxyAir machines have three outlets: two for hydrogen and one for oxygen.
Hydrogen inhalation machine vs hydrogen water machine
A hydrogen water machine dissolves hydrogen into drinking water. A hydrogen inhalation machine produces hydrogen gas to breathe in. They're different appliances for different routines.
Some machines do both. Every OxiVaultt hydrogen oxygen generator comes with a free Hydrogen Water Making Rod, so the same machine also makes hydrogen water. If water is your main interest, read our guide to the best hydrogen water machine in Australia.
Hydrogen inhalation machine flow rates explained
Flow rate is the most important number on any hydrogen inhalation machine. It's measured in millilitres per minute (mL/min) and tells you how much gas the machine produces.
On a 2:1 machine, two-thirds of the flow is hydrogen and one-third is oxygen. For example, the OxyAir 1500 produces 1,000 mL/min of hydrogen and 500 mL/min of oxygen at its highest setting.
| Maximum flow | Typical use | Size and power |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 mL/min | One person, quieter starter machines | Compact, around 180 to 375 W |
| 1,800 to 3,000 mL/min | Longer sessions, or two people sharing | Mid-size, around 300 to 750 W |
| 4,200 to 6,000 mL/min | Two users at once, or the most flexibility | Largest, around 300 to 1,000 W |
A higher maximum doesn't mean you have to use it. Every machine we sell can be turned down, so a bigger machine simply gives you more room to choose.

Running costs
The main running costs are electricity and purified water. Power use ranges from about 180 W on compact machines to 1,000 W on the largest.
As a rule of thumb, a 180 W machine running for one hour uses 0.18 kWh, and a 750 W machine uses 0.75 kWh. Multiply by the rate on your electricity bill to work out your cost per session.
All of these machines need purified, distilled or deionised water, which you can buy from the supermarket or make with a home filter.
What to look for in a hydrogen inhalation machine
- Flow rate and settings: the maximum, and how many lower settings you can choose from.
- Outlets: enough for the number of people who'll use it at once.
- Purity and membrane: look for 99.99% purity and an SPE/PEM membrane with platinum electrodes.
- Running time: how long it can run continuously. The OxyAir range runs for up to 8 hours.
- Water tank: a bigger tank (2 to 5 L on our OxiVaultt models) means less refilling.
- Size and weight: our OxiVaultt machines weigh from about 9 kg (compact) to 19 kg (large-flow). Check the dimensions against your space.
- Extras: OxiVaultt machines include a hydrogen water rod and protective goggles. OxyAir machines come with goggles, earplugs and two nasal cannulas.
- Warranty and support: all our machines come with a 1-year warranty and support from our Australian team.
All-in-one hydrogen machines: inhalation and hydrogen water
If you'd like both hydrogen inhalation and hydrogen water without buying two appliances, an all-in-one hydrogen machine is the simplest option.
Every OxiVaultt hydrogen oxygen generator includes a Hydrogen Water Making Rod. It connects to the machine and infuses a glass or bottle of purified water with hydrogen, so you can switch between inhalation and drinking water.

Using a hydrogen inhalation machine safely at home
Hydrogen is colourless, odourless and lighter than air, and it is flammable in air at concentrations between 4% and 75%, according to the U.S. Department of Energy's hydrogen safety guide.
A home hydrogen oxygen machine produces small amounts, but a few simple habits keep things safe.
- Use the machine in a room with normal ventilation, not a sealed cupboard.
- Keep it away from open flames, candles, cigarettes and gas cooktops.
- Only use purified, distilled or deionised water.
- Switch it off when you're not using it, and follow the manual for your model.
Setting up your hydrogen inhalation machine at home
- Choose a spot: a stable surface near a power point, in a ventilated room.
- Fill the tank with purified or distilled water to the marked level.
- Attach the cannula (or the water rod, if you're making hydrogen water).
- Choose your flow setting and switch on.
- Look after it: top up the water, change it regularly, and keep the cannula clean or replace it.
Which hydrogen inhalation machine is best for you?
